The Art of Enneagram Coaching
First, What is the Enneagram?
A good place to start, in case you are not familiar with it. The Enneagram is a map, though not “just” a map. It is rooted in a lot of ancient wisdom and sharpened by modern psychology. It describes nine archetypal energies – or types – each with its own motivations, fears, gifts, blind spots, and habitual ways of being. Here, it is crucial to understand that it is not about being placed in a box, which I have heard quite a bit over the years (e.g. “I don’t want to be placed in a box, or labeled.”). It is about allowing the Enneagram to show you, with uncanny and often brutal honesty, the exact box you have already been living in… and then hand you a key, or a crowbar, as a way out. That is true for all of us.
In the Enneagram circles, we call it “a psycho-spiritual map,” which means – it is a framework for self-awareness, and/or personal and professional development and growth. Yet, for the brave and the curious, it is also a spiritual compass, a relational decoder ring, and, frankly, a mirror that sometimes says, “Yeah, this is awkward, but you kinda do this thing every time you feel threatened. Wanna look at that?”
Ultimately, the Enneagram is a comprehensive framework that articulates our human nature in great details. It conveys, with uncanny precision, our human behaviours, drives, motivations, where and how we can show up at our absolute best, and also ways our automatic patterns unconsciously drive us away from our true self. The Enneagram is used in personal and professional development, organizational contexts, coaching, education, and non-denominational spiritual practices – all with transformative impacts.
I recently wrote about my own journey with the Enneagram, personal and professional, here – The Enneagram, a Map of the Soul.
This 11-week virtual course offers existing personal and professional coaches a way to integrate the wisdom of the Enneagram into their coaching, accelerating, deepening, and enhancing the quality of their coaching relationships. Emphasis is placed on a blend of Enneagram theory and application, deepening the transformative impact in bringing clarity, awareness, and impact to the coaching process.
Using this blend of theory and a lot of practice, students will start developing a powerful coaching approach that allows for both greater self-awareness and meaningful lasting impact on their coaching clients. Additionally, participants will learn ways to develop the skills, capacity, and quality of full-body presence within themselves, furthering their own professional growth and development.
Some of the intended learning outcomes are to:
- Understand the Foundations of the Enneagram.
- Apply the Enneagram in Coaching Practices.
- Develop Somatic Intelligence and Presence in Coaching.
- Refine Self-Awareness as a Coach.
- Implement Transformational Coaching Strategies.
- Synthesize Learning and Integrate the Enneagram Holistically.
The course starts on Sep 29, 2025 and continues for 11 weeks. For further details and registration, please visit: https://pcs.royalroads.ca/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=2688675 .
